This week is an open letter question that I received from Ron J. of the Philippines.

Hello Alexzandra,

Can you suggest how the business grow using Facebook? By paid advertising? I don’t think it work.

Kindly email us your secret. Thanks

What a wonderful question and I am so glad you asked it! The three most important things that you can do to grow your business and reach great levels of success is this:

1. Offer the very highest and best quality of product or service possible and always be looking for ways to improve it even more.

2. Offer the very finest in customer service to each and every customer or client and do it consistently. Always look for ways to add that little something extra to make your customer’s experience in your place of business special. If you have employees ask them to contribute ideas that would set your business apart from all the rest in your area as being “The Place” to go to for the very best in what you have to offer.

3. Facebook and other social media are a wonderful way for you to build relationships with your customer base and others in your area. Since you mentioned Facebook, let’s use that as an example. One of the most powerful tools you must have to reach your business success goals is to give your customers an opportunity to give you feedback, both positive and negative. Facebook gives you that opportunity for free when you have a Facebook page for your business. The idea is to get you customers engaged in the conversation by getting them to post comments on your page. You can see what their saying and then use that information to improve your business. For example, if you have a shop and on your Facebook page your customers are making comments that they wished you carried a product that you are not currently carrying, you can add that product to your stock and make a lot of sales by meeting your customers need. You could also comment back to your customer that you will get that product in and post it on your Facebook page when it arrives. You could also ask an open question of who else would be interested in that product so you know how many to order. This kind of interaction does several things, it makes you aware of how you can improve your business and meet your customers most urgent need and therefore make more sales. It also offers you a chance to connect back to your customers in an open way that lets the whole community know that you are a businessman that truly cares about his customers and that builds your brand in a very positive way. You also create a sense of community amongst your customers which is the founding principle of why Facebook is such a huge success. People like to feel that they belong to and are apart of something special, members of a club, so to speak. And this is all for free, but you have to use it and use it consistently.

As far as using paid advertising or not, I am going to give you a marketing gold nugget. Ready? The very best and most effective marketing tools you could use are usually always free. Any television programming in your local area that runs before the 5 o’clock hour is always a good candidate for a local story. Often if it is well received you may be added to the prime time news to add local flavor to the show.

So the next question is how to get on the show. Well, first you are going to have to do a little research. That means you are going to need to watch a little television and target the show you think will fit your business the best. Next, you need to pay close attention to the credits at the end of the show to find out who the producers are for that show. You also need to observe what kinds of stories they are looking for. Now think about your business and how you can benefit the show. Ask yourself how having you and your company on the show would benefit the show and its audience? If you could personalize the benefits of your business to the producer and then show how those same benefits would appeal to the shows viewer when you present your pitch, even better. One more thing and this is key, never and I mean never, make a pitch online or over the phone to local media. Always make your presentation in person. You want to build that personal contact and eventually relationship with members of the local media.

I hope this has given you a little guidance. I have just recently released a videos series with tons of information to help you really jump-start your business this year. Just go to and at the top right of the page enter you email address. The entire series will be delivered right to your email inbox and there is absolutely no charge! You can also leave your comments or questions just under each video. I love hearing from you so keep the comments and questions coming.  They help me create even more meaningful and better targeted products and services for you. Good luck!
